is Fair Trade Forum - India ?
Fair
Trade Forum - India is a national network of Voluntary Organizations,
Producer Cooperatives, Producer / artisan groups and development
organizations involved in income generation activities, facilitators
of fair trade, Alternative Trading Organizations, Intermediary
and support services organizations and promoters of fair trade
concepts etc. Fair Trade Forum - India is a registered national
organization, a nonprofit society with its constitution and
by-laws governed and managed by an elected Executive Committee.
The National Administrative Secretariat functions from Chennai
and day to day affairs are managed and administered by the
Executive Director. Fair Trade Forum - India is a member of
the Asian Fair Trade Forum and shares concerns with International
Federation for Alternative Trade (IFAT).

To function as a network of Fair Trade organizations in
India

To promote and strengthen Fair Trade concepts and commonly
agreed principles from among the producer members and
their organizations, mainstream buyers, Government and
other bodies of policy makers and valued customers.
- To
take up advocacy, lobbying and campaigning on Fair Trade
matters and related issues with all concerned.
- To
strengthen fair trade market for the members with in the
country and abroad.
- To
facilitate and promote development and market promotion
activities towards better and efficient Fair Trading of
the products.
- To
build awareness among members for better understanding
of Fair Trade concepts and manage their business / activities
well through various programs including National Conventions,
Regional Workshop, Fair Trade Fairs, Exhibitions, exchange
visits, Fair Trade Information sharing etc.
Principles
of Fair Trade:
- Producers
are able to get fair-price for their produce/products.
- Ethical
standards are followed in processing, producing and marketing
of produces/products.
- The
producers or the buyers exploit neither the people nor
the environment irreparably.
- Dignity
of the producers is upheld and the meaning and values
of producer/products are shared from among the purchasers
and consumers.
- Fair
Trade is promoted as an effective alternative to both
aid and conventional Trade.
- Through
trading partnership, facilitate sustainable development
for the marginalised, disadvantaged, excluded producers.
- Trading
conditions are constantly watched to avoid and/or overcome
the discriminatory processes and practices in the process
of production and marketing.
- Fair
Trade to bring closer the (Southern) Producers and (Northern)
Consumers by the extent possible by reducing the gap.
- Fair
Trade is promoted to be a mutually responsive trading
relationship.
